Donald Gene Lovelady went to be with his Lord on January 10, 2020. He was born November 14, 1948 in Porterville, California to Jack and Edna Lovelady.
He attended Sausalito Elementary School through the 8th grade. Then attended and graduated from Porterville High School in June 1966. He received his Associates degree in Business from Porterville College in June 1968.
Don started working for Sierra Forest Products in July 1968, and in August married his first wife Brenda. At Sierra Forest Products Don started as payroll clerk, then the position became Personnel Director, which changed to Human Resources Manager. He retired after 48 years because of illness. Don was instrumental in helping to write safety rules for OSHA in the Saw Mill industry. Over the years he would spend time in Sacramento working with those that would write and put into place the rules and laws that are in effect today.
In the late 70’s Don received his State of California Ministry License from Golden Gate Seminary and served as a bi-vocational Pastor for several churches in the Early 80’s. Don was then asked to be the Associate Minister of Youth for First Southern Baptist from 1984 to 1987. He stepped down when his wife Brenda had to have Brain surgery. Don went on later to be a deacon of the church for 30 years and to teach an adult Sunday School class for 29 years.
Donald enjoyed spending time in the mountains, reading history books, studying his Bible, helping people in need and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Edna Lovelady and his first wife Brenda. He is survived by his current wife Debbie, daughter Jennifer Gant and Son-in Law Charles, Son Matthew and daughter in law Zella. Stepson William McBride and wife Sara. Step-daughter Roxanne Topete and husband Gabe. His grandsons Shayne Kent and wife Megan, Brandon Lloyd, Ian Lovelady, Tyson Lovelady, Kelton Scott, Destin Scott. Great granddaughter Callie Kent and great grandson Nickolas Kent. Brothers Ron Lovelady and wife Brenda and John Lovelady and wife Peggy. Don also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life is scheduled to be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:00 am at Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center. A reception to follow.
